New Range Rover to grow an extra row of seats?

The new Range Rover will be revealed in September, but the rumour mill is already spinning at 7,000 rpm. We think we know the new model will be a lot lighter (a good quarter of a tonne lighter) and more economical, but the big issue is how big it will be.

New Mercedes GL Class

Mercedes says the GL Class is the S-Class of off-roaders. That’s funny, because most of us think of the old GL-Class as the Maybach of off-roaders: oversized, overpriced and over here (it is very popular in America, though, where it does not look like the design was run through the photocopier on zoom function).

GM working on WiFi Direct to save pedestrians

We have all seen it, some of us have done it, and a few have crashed as a result: a pedestrian is so engrossed in telling their friend which pub they are going to, that they walk straight out in front of a car.

It happened to one of our writers on a motorbike a couple of years ago: the dopey pedestrian was only shaken, but the bike was wrecked as the rider took evasive action. Only the presence of witnesses persuaded the police that the biker was actually the real victim.

Goodwood Revival to recreate Nine Hour Race

The 60th anniversary of the first Goodwood Nine Hour race will be marked by a special evening race at this year’s Goodwood Revival with sports cars of the time such as the Jaguar C-type, Aston Martin DB3S, Austin-Healey 100S and Ferrari 750 Monza.

Don’t buy a new car in September

A leading industry insider has warned that car companies may force the UK car market higher by pre-registering thousands of new cars to themselves, reducing the resale value of cars bought by legitimate customers.

Pre-registrations, theoretically outlawed by the government 10 years ago by a law with more holes than a sieve, are when car companies want to show they are selling lots of cars. They register the cars to themselves, their dealers or big fleet customers, only for the unwanted cars to re-appear on the market a few months later, with hugely discounted prices.
