Jaguar to show F-Type at Goodwood

Jaguar will drive the forthcoming F-Type up the hillclimb at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. As part of the “dance of the seven veils” strategy, whereby we all get teased by a steady stream of near-reveals, a development prototype example of Jaguar’s new sports car, will make its public debut at the Festival of Speed.

Boffin eliminates driver’s rear blind spot

We’ve all been there: you have a quick look in the mirror, start to pull out and suddenly a bike or car appears from nowhere, having been hidden in the blind spot.

Now an American professor has patented a rear view mirror which, it is claimed, solves the problem.

Currently, driver’s wing mirrors tend to be flat, as curved mirrors distort the image and give a false sense of distance. However, flat mirrors give a very narrow field of vision. Now Drexel University mathematics professor Andrew Hicks, has told industry website, www.just-auto.com that he has invented a mirror that increases the field of view with minimal distortion.

Young people falling out of love with cars?

Kids today, eh? They seem to reckon a smartphone is cooler than a car. Car companies are concerned that young people in cities are increasingly likely to avoid buying a car. It has already happened in Japan, where sales of all but the smallest city cars have been in long-term decline for over a decade. Now the worry is that it could happen in Europe as well – even when (if?) the recession finally ends.

Don’t leave your personal data on the car’s hard disk

A trade body has warned that the increasing use of hard disks in car infotainment systems means that owners are sometimes leaving sensitive personal data when they sell the car.

The Vehicle Remarketing Association has warned that drivers need to select Delete All before selling the car, or handing it back to the dealer or leasing company – and traders need to make sure that this has been done before selling it on.
