New engines for Vauxhalls


Vauxhall has announced that it will be introducing three new engine families in the next year to boost both power and economy. First to arrive will be a 1.6 turbo petrol with up to 197 bhp – that is one in the eye for Ford, whose 1.6 petrol currently goes up to 177 bhp.

Council diverts drivers 47 miles…for half a mile of road repairs

A road repair job due to start today has flabbergasted local residents. Flabbergasted, we tells ya!Why?  Because in order to repair a stretch of road less than half a mile long, a 47-mile diversion has been put in place.

It’s the work of Somerset Council, which has commissioned repairs on a stretch of Church Street that would ordinarily take less than a minute to drive through. However, the diversion will cost about two hours, according to an MSN story.

MINI John Cooper Works GP II officially revealed

As was predicted over a month ago, MINI chose its MINI United event to pull the wraps off its fastest model yet, the John Cooper Works GP II.  Claimed extensive use of motor sport technology, means that prototypes have already lapped the infamous Nurburgring circuit in 8 minutes and 23 seconds. This is almost 19 seconds faster than than the first GP that also debuted at MINI United in 2006.

England’s roads not suitable for 80mph limit


The Road Safety Foundation (RSF) has claimed that England’s road network isn’t safe enough for an 80mph limit, due to lack of crash barriers and poor road maintenance. According to a story in The Telegraph, the lack of crash barriers is the main reason that an 80mph is deemed unsafe by the road safety charity.
