Jonathan Edwards launches BMW Olympic fleet

At a launch in central London this morning, the former Olympic and World Champion triple-jumper Jonathan Edwards launched the fleet of BMW cars that will ferry the Olympic athletes and officials this summer. BMW is proud of the fact that the fleet is very low-emission. The average is 116 g/km of CO2, which is below the official Olympic target of 120 g/km. According to research by environmental website, www.cleangeencars.co.uk, BMW is now the world’s most efficient car manufacturer in terms of the amount of CO2 emitted for every horsepower generated.

Another motor show, another one-off porcelain Veyron…yes, porcelain

Bugatti has turned up at another motor show with anotherspecial edition of the Veyron. It’s almost as if it doesn’t have anything new to show anyone. This time it’s the Beijing Motor Show, and in fairness to Bugatti, it probably should have a presence there because the Chinese, all of a sudden, have shedloads of money to spend on flash motors. So, after a meeting at Bugatti HQ in which employees competed to dream up the tackiest thing that could be done to a Veyron, it was decided that filling one with porcelain was the winner.

Insurers plead with government to stop fake whiplash claims

The Association of British Insurers has urged the Government to stop ‘victims’ from claiming easy money by claiming they have whiplash– because claims are pushing up the average premium by a massive 20%. Despite a fall in the number of car crashes, whiplash claims have risen by a third in the last three years. Every year 570,000 people claim for whiplash injuries. Last year these claims cost insurers over £2 billion, adding an extra £90 a year to the average annual motor premium of £440.
