SEAT shows hot Ibiza Cupra Concept

The Beijing Motor Show has seen the debut of the latest hot little SEAT – the Ibiza Cupra. A concept by name, it’s actually production ready and will be in the shops very shortly. It follows the introduction of the facelifted Ibiza, which gets a sharper front end, now including a set of LED daytime running lights. It went on sale in the UK this weekend.

Lamborghini finally unveils its SUV, the Urus

Yes, it’s finally happened- Lamborghini has done an SUV. Well, we say finally, but (before you swell into indignant rage) Lamborghini has made a 4×4 before, of course – the monstrous LM002 of 1986. But this one, the Urus, is a different kettle of mud entirely, built for a generation that is clamped by an apocalyptic thumbscrew, with global recession tightening on one side and impending ecological meltdown the other, yet still desperate to wrap its tortured hands around the steering wheels of ever more pointlessly profligate motors.

Eterniti shows Artemis – the world’s first production super SUV

London’s Eterniti is back, but the Hemera is no more – it’s called the Artemis now, it’s due at the end of this year, and it’s going to cost £210,000. That’s a lot of money for a re-skinned Porsche Cayenne.Eterniti claims that the Artemis is the world’s first “Super SUV”. We are not sure what Range Rover would make of that – in truth they probably are not terribly bothered.

Win a Porsche track car

UK motor charity SKIDZ  is raffling off a track-prepared Porsche 968 to raise money so that the next generation of young mechanics can be trained. Up to.500 tickets are being sold, for £25 – and the winner will even get a Porsche experience at Silverstone chucked in, too. The car is a 1994 Porsche 968 – given that young mechanics may not have been born in 1994, we better explain what that is. It was the very last of the four-cylinder Porsche range that evolved through the 924 and 944 into the 968.

Holiday to the Alps: Fly or Drive?

About a month before Easter, four of us decided to go on a skiing trip to Italy. Shocked at the price of airfares for the peak Easter week (nearly £800 for all of us), we decided to drive instead. It sounds a bit daunting –1000 km from Calais to Italy’s Aosta Valley, on the far side of the Mont Blanc Tunnel. However, the French have kindly built a motorway all the way down eastern France from Calais to within 5 km of the Mont Blanc Tunnel, so it is really a question of pointing the car at the motorway once you get off the boat, and then staying awake until Italy. Just remember the new rules about breathalysers in France.
